Road to Riches - A Brabazon Chronicle

There’s barely a cloud in the sky, a fitting backdrop to the month-long stretch of near-perfect weather. Bourne Woods and Hankley Common have long been my preferred path at dawn, a sacred stroll where the stillness of the trees and the whispering heath never fail to lift the spirits. The land here is an artists dream, an orchestra of greens and golds that stirs the soul and sets the mind right for the day ahead. As I walk gently up the drive to Hankley Common Golf Club, there’s a palpable shift in the air. Something momentous is unfolding.
High above, a line of international flags flutter proudly from gleaming white poles, catching the breeze like sails on a distant voyage. The car park hums with quiet energy, not loud enough to break the morning calm, but unmistakably alive with anticipation. Something is happening here, something special. It appears we’ve stumbled across 144 elite amateur golfers descending upon this legendary area of woodland. Known to many as a cinematic stage, today this historic setting becomes something even more inspiring: the proving ground for the next generation of golf champions.
